Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that two players at London Colney have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Arteta’s side hammered Leeds United 4-1 at Elland Road on Saturday night.

Albert Sambi Lokonga was omitted from the Arsenal squad and it was later reported that the Belgium international failed to travel to West Yorkshire after returning a positive test result.

And although the Gunners boss has confirmed Lokonga’s situation, the Spaniard added that central defender Pablo Mari had also been diagnosed with the virus.

He told The Standard: “We had another player, as well Pablo has Covid, so unfortunately they [Mari and Lokonga] will be out.”

Worrying

The Premier League is riddled with positive cases at the moment.

For instance, Arsenal’s clash with Leeds yesterday was the only Premier League contest to go ahead, which ought to illustrate the situation in England’s top flight right now.

And it’s concerning for the North Londoners because if Lokonga and Mari have the coronavirus then it seems improbable that the spread ends with those two.

You can be infected without testing positive if it’s in the earliest stages and only time will tell if more Arsenal players follow suit or whether the Colney outfit nipped this in the bud.
