Leeds United’s squad looks like it is going to be picked apart this summer.
The Whites stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season, and it’s fair to say that they owe a lot to their two star players – Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.
Indeed, the United duo were pivotal in Leeds’ Premier League survival last term, and after yet another standout season for Raphinha and Phillips, there has been interest from some elite clubs.
Phillips is reportedly now on his way to Manchester City after a deal was agreed, while Raphinha is being courted by both Arsenal and Tottenham.
However, while the two north London clubs want to sign Raphinha, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Leeds are standing even more firm on their £65m asking price after agreeing to sell Phillips.
Romano says that Leeds are now being very firm over Raphinha, and this is exactly the approach they should be taking.
The Whites can’t afford to go into next season with a weaker squad after narrowly avoiding relegation this time around, and if Phillips and Raphinha go, they may well struggle to replace them.
Of course, their task would be made a lot easier by receiving big money, and at £65m, it’s fair to say that United could well find a competent replacement for the Brazilian.
Leeds may be letting Phillips go for a relatively modest fee, but it appears that they won’t be selling Raphinha for a penny less than they believe he’s worth.
