Liverpool nearly signed the Lyon ace 12 moths ago.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told the club’s official website that Nabil Fekir wants to leave the club this summer, and in light of this, Liverpool should be first in line to sign the France international.
The 25-year-old’s proposed £53 million move to Anfield infamously collapsed at the last minute in the summer of 2018, after doubts about the player’s fitness, according to the Telegraph.
French publication Le Progress recently claimed that Liverpool are once again interested in the Lyon ace, however, so after Aulas’s recent comments, what are the Merseyside outfit waiting for?
Fekir would be the ideal addition for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and he would give the German the opportunity of playing with a 4-2-3-1 formation, given his preference of operating in the number 10 role.
The 21-capped France international racked up 12 goals and nine assists in 39 appearances for Lyon last season, and his exceptional technical ability, combined with a keen eye for a killer pass really would take Liverpool’s attacking play to another level.
The Reds were so close to ending their 29-year wait for a top flight title last season, and had they signed Fekir last year, they might just have pipped Manchester City to the Premier League crown.
After Aulas’s comments, however, there is no reason why Liverpool should not go back in for the Frenchman this summer.
It could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Merseyside outfit.
