Stuart Armstrong is coming off the finest season in his professional career and one that he like his other Celtic teammates may struggle to top.
So it is cruel on him that his 2016/17 campaign has ended on a low note, with Armstrong full of regret.
Armstrong lost possession with Scotland 2-1 up against England at Hampden Park on Saturday, for the goal which led to Harry Kane’s equaliser.

It robbed Scotland of a memorable victory and also left them with a mountain to climb if they are to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
Armstrong was left gutted by the error, telling the Scotsman: “It was really late on and, honestly, tiredness comes into play. I’ve seen Griff make a run and it was a poor pass.
“So, in hindsight, I should probably just have shelled it into row Z. A number of things have to happen for a goal to be conceded but I probably should have just cleared the ball.
“You can never tell what phase of play is going to lead to what. It’s just one of those things. When I saw the ball hit the net, my feelings were honestly just total disappointment. We were so close to three points. To end up with just one point, it’s just hard to take.”

Armstrong was part of Celtic’s all conquering team which went the entire domestic season unbeaten.
He has had it so good lately that, he has forgotten what disappointment is, and that’s now it for the season for Armstrong.
At domestic level he has shone, scoring 15 goals for Celtic in the league and providing seven assists.
Saturday was just a little reminder that disappointment is always around the corner, and prevent him being too complacent heading into 2017/18.
