He never achieved it at Crystal Palace or Hull, but can Tom Ince show he is good enough for the Premier League after joining Huddersfield from Derby?

According to the Mirror the £11m transfer taking Tom Ince from Derby County to Huddersfield Town is on the verge of completion after the winger passed a medical.

Ince will become the Terriers’ club record signing, with the Rams receiving an initial £8.5m fee and a further £2.5m in add-ons.

The 25-year-old has been at Pride Park on a permanent basis for two years, signing in the summer of 2015 after impressing on loan from Hull City in 2014/15 with 11 goals in 18 Championship appearances.

In the second tier of English football Ince has really shone, but this move to Huddersfield is his chance to finally prove he can cut it at Premier League level.

The Liverpool youth graduate was never considered good enough at Anfield and was released after making just one senior appearance and so far in the top flight the forward has failed to impress with Hull and Crystal Palace.

While Ince has proven to be more of a late developer than was first predicted after truly bursting onto the scene with Blackpool, his father Paul – who played for both Manchester United and the Reds – believes his son is now ready for the big time.

“I always believe he is a Premier League player. I know he can do it,” Ince senior was quoted by the Mirror.

“I think he has proven that scoring 15 goals from the right wing takes some doing.

“It is just about getting the opportunity.”

Well David Wagner is about to give Ince that opportunity at the John Smith’s Stadium and the Terriers are backing him with their biggest ever outlay for a player.

There are no more excuses now. This is Ince’s time to finally show he is good enough.
