Jurgen Klopp reveals that Danny Ward is in contention to become Liverpool number one after impressing for Huddersfield.
Jurgen Klopp has put the challenge to goalkeeper Danny Ward to become Liverpool’s number one ahead of Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
Karius was signed by Klopp from his former club Mainz in 2016 and was initially first choice between the sticks, before some disappointing performances saw Mignolet reinstated.

The Daily Star speculated that with neither stopper inspiring during 2016/17, the Reds would look to sign an alternative this summer, but perhaps one has already been found at the club in Ward?
“That’s very comfortable for the manager, three really good goalkeepers,” Klopp told the official website.
“It is like it is and nothing is decided, they can all show how good they are. I don’t want to bring doubt so that they start doubting.
“Danny played a fantastic season at Huddersfield with a big success at the end.
“We have three goalkeepers and they can all show what they are able to do, and then we will see who will start.”
Huddersfield manager David Wagner was keen to bring Ward back to the John Smith’s Stadium as he prepares for the Premier League following promotion.
Yet after speaking to his friend Klopp, it was made clear the Wales international would be staying at Anfield and it now seems it is because the 50-year-old has plans for him to play a starting role on Merseyside.

“I’ve spoken with Jurgen and unfortunately he’s made the decision that Danny Ward has to go back to Liverpool,” Wagner was quoted by the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old played 46 matches in all competitions for the Terriers in 2016/17 while on loan, saving the crucial penalty in the playoff final against Reading which sealed promotion for the Yorkshire side via a shootout.
