Nottingham Forest’s longest serving player, Chris Cohen, has confirmed his new contract at the club has been finalised.
This comes on the day that Cohen’s goal helped Forest avoid relegation from the Sky Bet Championship with a 3-0 home victory against Ipswich Town on the final day of the season.
The Reds went into the final day knowing that they needed to at least match Blackburn Rovers’ result at Brentford (they won 3-1) to stay up, with the two sides level on points.
Cohen’s strike came in between a double from Britt Assombalonga as Forest ensured their survival and now the midfielder has extended his stay at the City Ground beyond 10 years, after joining from Yeovil Town back in 2007.
Cohen had revealed in the buildup to the Ipswich game that he was in discussion with the club over a new deal and that he would sign it regardless of whether they were relegated or not.
The 30-year-old has played 297 times for Forest in a career at the club that has been blighted by three serious knee injuries that has curtailed his playing time by more than two years in total.
