Manchester United are targeting a new number nine but surely they can’t get Tottenham’s Harry Kane, can they?

Manchester United are in the market for a new striker, according to The Telegraph after switching their attentions from Antoine Griezmann.

United’s pursuit of Griezmann has been made more complicated by Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban, but the Frenchman was always more of a luxury than a necessity.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured and with an uncertain future and Wayne Rooney likely to be sold, the Red Devils are light of options up front.

United are reported to be focusing their efforts on signing a centre-forward – and who better than prolific striker Harry Kane?

Kane is celebrating his second golden boot in a row after netting 29 goals in 30 league games this season.

The England international would be perfect for United’s needs, but their chances of landing him are remote despite the Red Devils having the money available.

Kane is committed to Spurs and signed a new contract this past season, while chairman Daniel Levy is not exactly fond of either United or Jose Mourinho.

SkyBet have Kane priced at 10/1 to join United, and 1/20 on to end the summer as a Tottenham player.

United fans on Twitter are keen for the club to test the water, and put Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to the test.

He caved into Real Madrid once by selling star player Gareth Bale for a world record fee whether he would sanction a sale to a Premier League rival is another matter.
