Leeds United are said to have made a move to bring the Spaniard back to Elland Road.

Leeds' Alfonso Pedraza celebrates scoring their third goal

According to a recent report from Spanish publication AS, Leeds United have seen their bid to bring Alfonso Pedraza back on loan to Elland Road next season rejected.

The report claims Pedraza’s current club Villarreal are hoping to send the 21-year-old out to another La Liga side next year, but Leeds should do everything in their power to force a U-turn.

The winger may have only shown sporadic moments of brilliance during his time at Elland Road, yet those glimpses suggested that with a little more time to settle he could be a major factor in a Leeds promotion push in 2018.

The problem for Leeds boss Garry Monk was that he had too many wide options this season, and his failure to settle on his strongest starting XI led to a capitulation in the final few weeks of the campaign.

Mo Barrow quickly went AWOL, Hadi Sacko was too often frustrating, Stuart Dallas offered little and Souleymane Doukara was hit-and-miss despite winning over plenty of critics with his work-rate.

The problem for Pedraza is that he was always going to take time to settle at Elland Road and so it proved, with his impact unfairly judged following his arrival in a different league in a new country.

Villarreal understandably want the best for their player as he continues his development. However Monk would be wise to attempt to convince them that his progress would be best served playing week in, week out at Leeds.

Now he knows the club he could focus on playing football and there was enough from his showings this suggestion to suggest he is the winger Leeds desperately need to take them forward.
