After getting transfer control, Pochettino gets it right with first reported move

If reports are true, the Tottenham Hotspur boss has given an encouraging sign of his transfer judgement.

According to the Daily Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino’s first move at Tottenham after being handed the final say on transfers and recruitment has been to tell his bosses he wants to keep Erik Lamela at the club.

And that’s not a bad start for the Argentine…

The 23-year-old has far from lived up to his £30 million price-tag since moving to White Hart Lane but, of late, has begun to show signs of life.

As Opta stats show, Lamela is Tottenham’s second-most creative player this season and the club’s best dribbler. The Argentine is also Spurs’ assist king, although he needs to score more for the north London side.

Clearly, then, the 23-year-old is making some headway at White Hart Lane, even if he has struggled to justify his heavy price-tag during his time in the capital so far.

The key thing is his much-improved recent form – which puts the likes of Andros Townsend to absolute shame.

Lamela still has a very long way to go, of course. But, if a £30m player finally shows signs of improvement and you decide to get rid of him, you’re simply having a laugh – and not taking your job seriously in any way at all…
