Davy Klaassen did not complete his proposed loan to Napoli so should Everton manager Sam Allardyce give him a second chance?

Davy Klaassen remains at Everton after a proposed loan move to Napoli fell through on deadline day, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Toffees manager Sam Allardyce described it as “the weirdest situation” with the deal collapsing because of a “sporting contract” – with it reported that failure to agree Klaassen’s image rights were behind it.

“I can’t quite expand on that but a sporting contract he has with a sporting company was a part of the reason why it failed,” Allardyce told the Liverpool Echo.

“God knows why or how. This is one of the best moves he could’ve had in Europe but for whatever reason, and whoever fault it was, it failed.

“We’re disappointed but he should be far more disappointed than us that he’s still here and not playing in Napoli in the Italian league.”

Allardyce has previously said that Klaassen needed to leave Goodison Park to get first team football, suggesting the 24-year-old is not in his plans.

This has been further demonstrated by the Netherlands international’s game time, making just one appearances since the 63-year-old was appointed on November 30.

Yet however disappointing it is for everyone involved that Klaassen didn’t leave for Naples, does the fact the midfielder remains in Liverpool mean he should be given a second chance rather than being cast aside a little over six months after joining from Ajax in a £23.6m (BBC) deal?

After all the Dutchman can play in central midfield, which is an area Allardyce is short in following a double leg break suffered by James McCarthy that could keep the Republic of Ireland international out for around a year.
