According to a report from the Sun, Mauricio Pochettino could be willing to sell Tottenham man Eric Dier this summer, and the Argentine would be 100 per cent right to sanction the Englishman’s exit.

The 25-year-old joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be worth just £4 million according to BBC Sport, and he has gone on to make 209 appearances in all competitions for the north London outfit.

Dier has been a decent servant for Tottenham, but his performances dropped dramatically last season, and he seemed to be a shadow of the player he once was.

With Tanguy Ndombele closing in on his move to Spurs (Sky Sports), Dier would surely be demoted to a backup central midfielder at the very best, so if Pochettino can get rid of him this summer for a decent price, it will surely be the right decision.

The Guardian claimed two years ago that Manchester United were prepared to pay £50 million for the England international, and whilst he would not be worth anywhere near that fee now, Tottenham should still be able to flog him for a substantial price.

Dier, who currently earns £60k-a-week according to Spotrac, has just two years remaining on his current deal with Spurs, so now seems like a good time to move him on.

And Tottenham will be a much better team with Ndombele in the side instead of Dier.

That seems harsh on the 25-year-old, but football is a ruthless industry, where one bad season can prove to be very costly, and the Tottenham ace might just find that out the hard way.
