Everton have reportedly made a move for the right winger and they already have a very talented option for the opposite flank.
According to a recent report from Team Talk, Everton have made their first move to sign Queens Park Rangers winger Josh Bowler this summer.
While a £500,000 initial payment – with add-ons that could see the deal reach £3million – is allegedly not enough to tempt the Hoops to do business, there is a tantalising prospect for those Toffees fans already thinking about the future if the Merseyside club return with a fresh offer.
After all, the Team Talk report compares Bowler with Chris Waddle, and the prospect of the 18-year-old on one flank and recent Everton signing Ademola Lookman on the other could be a key reason for Ronald Koeman’s alleged interest.
Former Charlton Athletic player Lookman is the real deal and in time he should become a highly effective creative catalyst for the Toffees.
Bowler has only just begun his own professional career, yet if he is anywhere near as good as Waddle he would go down a storm at Goodison Park.
While Koeman needs to think in terms of the here-and-now with his summer transfers, any decent manager knows the importance of planning for the future and the Dutchman is no different.
Everton have a number of exciting young prospects coming through the ranks right now and if Bowler joins them and fulfils his potential, he could form a highly effective attacking triumvirate with Lookman and whichever striker the Toffees have at the time.
