During the summer transfer window, Everton came very close to signing Donny van de Beek from Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Toffees were ‘really, really’ close to sealing a deal for the out-of-favour Dutchman, although it was blocked.

Van de Beek told Rio Ferdinand that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted him to stay at Old Trafford despite a lack of game time, and that was that.

Now, after being ignored against in the 2-1 win over Villarreal last night, the £40m man is fuming – rightly so.

What happened?

As Solskjaer prepared to bring on his final substitutes, Van de Beek could be seen reacting angrily.

Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News claimed that the former Ajax maestro threw his bib to the ground.

Additionally, footage shows Van de Beek being comforted by teammates, as he watches Fred and Jesse Lingard prepare to come on right in front of him.

You can see footage of that moment below.

Why was Donny Van de Beek blocked from joining Everton?

The 24-year-old is a fantastic player, and would’ve been a brilliant signing for Everton.

Van de Beek is Manchester United’s player, and they can treat him however they like, although this seems like such a ridiculous situation.

Why would Solskjaer tell him he’s needed, before continuing to leave him out?

Van de Beek started just four Premier League games last season, and has only played five minutes in England’s top-flight so far this term.

The Dutchman was signed by Solskjaer, so we really don’t understand why he’s being treated so harshly.

If this continues, Everton should certainly try their luck again in January.
