Cluj striker Billel Omrani could be heading for the Middle East according to Le10 Sport with a man regularly linked with Celtic closing in on a move away from the Romanian giants.
The Hoops have a habit of being undone on the European stage by a previously little-known forward – and then trying to sign him.
Patrick Twumasi admitted to 442GH that he held talks with Brendan Rodgers after running Celtic’s defence ragged during a Champions League qualifying clash with Astana in the summer of 2017.
And after Omrani stunned Neil Lennon’s side on their own soil, netting twice in Glasgow as Cluj triumphed 4-3 back in August, the free-scoring Frenchman was offered the chance to ply his trade at Parkhead on a more regular basis.
“Celtic made an offer and so did a club in England,” Bognan Mara, Cluj’s general manager, told the Daily Record in May, while suggesting that the Hoops could come calling again.
“I think our asking price of £3 million is a fair price and several clubs remain interested.
“I think once football restarts, those clubs who were interested will return to us. He is an excellent player who has enjoyed an extraordinary season both at home and in Europe.”
Romanian Footballer of the Year in 2019, Omrani has maintained his impressive form since the turn of the year, producing 13 goals and five assists in all competitions for Cluj.
But, according to Le10 Sport, the one-time Marseille starlet could be set for a money-spinning move to the Middle East when the transfer window opens.
The ball, then, is in his court.
