Newcastle United loanee Matz Sels faces an uncertain future.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Matz Sels made an unwelcome error last night for Anderlecht.
Sels attempted to clear the ball with his foot as it was crossed into the six yard box, but he barely made contact and the ball rolled to a Standard Liege attacker to score.
Anderlecht lost the play-off match 2-1 although they have a second leg still to play.

Sels’ mistake was especially poorly timed as just yesterday before the game he had been suggesting he could have a future at Newcastle United.
Last night won’t have helped his cause much.
Sels told Sport Voetbal Magazine: “Newcastle is not a closed chapter for me either. I am still grateful to Rafael Benítez for having signed me.”

Newcastle paid £5 million to sign Sels from Gent but he struggled in the Championship and did not hold down a first team place.
Benitez recently loaned in Czech goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and it appears likely Newcastle will push for a permanent deal, which will hasten Sels’ exit.
Sels defended the error, insisting it was not a big deal. He told Voetball Krant: “Is that a mistake? No, I felt like I was not going to get on with my hands anymore, so I’ll try it with my feet. If it works, everyone will say that it’s done right.”
Unfortunately it didn’t.
