Celtic should look to Chelsea again despite Charly Musonda troubles.
Brendan Rodgers is in desperate need of new centre-backs at Celtic and time is running out for him to sign players.
One player who will be equally anxious to land a move is Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas, one of their perennial loanees.
Kalas starred at Fulham last season, winning promotion, but was not re-signed by Slavisa Jokanovic’s side and needs to find a new club before the end of the month.
Brendan Rodgers knows about Kalas’ quality only too well.
Kalas made his Premier League debut in 2014 for Chelsea in a decisive clash against Liverpool, famed for the Steven Gerrard slip.
The Czech defender was chosen by Jose Mourinho to answer an injury crisis and helped the Blues keep a clean sheet at Anfield in a clash which sparked a Liverpool collapse and lost them the title.
Since then, Kalas has been on loan with Middlesbrough and Fulham, and his further lack of chances with Chelsea has been perplexing, although Jose Mourinho’s exit didn’t help.
This season he remains in need of a new club and Celtic should push to sign him on loan before the deadline.
Kalas’ versatility can see him fill in at right-back too, which could be useful with both Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa inconsistent.
The 25-year-old is a Czech Republic international and should jump at the chance of playing for Celtic and potentially becoming their best defender in an instant.
Celtic’s loan move for Chelsea’s Charly Musonda did not work out last season, but that should not put the clubs off doing a deal which would be in everybody’s interests.
