West Ham United have wanted the Celta Vigo striker for quite some time, according to reports.
Celta Vigo hitman Maxi Gomez has been a transfer target for West Ham since january, according to a report from Sky Sports.
Sky Sports claimed a few days ago that the Hammers lodged a £29 million bid for the Uruguay international.
Things seem to have taken a twist today, however, with Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino suggesting that Gomez will cost his full £44.5 million release clause.
“We aren’t going to give Maxi away, and teams who want him need to start paying attention to the clause. From there, we can negotiate as equals, not with one party who consider themselves superior to the other.”
And following on from those remarks, now is the time for West Ham to just pay up, if they want to bring Gomez to the London Stadium.
The 22-year-old is an incredibly exciting talent, and despite the fact that he bagged just 13 goals for Celta Vigo last season, he has the potential to go on and become one of the very best strikers in the world.
The Hammers have history of submitting derisory bids for some of their top targets, although things do seem to be changing, after they shelled out £24 million to sign Pablo Fornals from Villarreal (BBC Sport).
The one missing link for West Ham is now a proven striker, and Gomez could be just the man for the job for the east London outfit.
In today’s day and age, £44.5 million for someone with Gomez’s talent and potential really is rather reasonable, and if the West Ham owners truly want their club to make waves in the Premier League next season, they need to just meet the Spanish side’s demands for the Uruguayan.
