Some Newcastle United fans may remember the name Facundo Ferreyra.
A host of former Newcastle United signings will go down in the club’s history for being somewhat forgettable, including Emmanuel Riviere, Florian Thauvin and Henri Saivet.
However, few have been quite so forgettable as striker Facundo Ferreyra, who joined the Magpies from Shakhtar Donetsk back in the summer of 2014.
The Argentinian had hit six goals in 22 games in the 2013-14 season, and arrived to boost Alan Pardew’s attacking options at St. James’ Park – but ended up being a figure of mystery.
Ferreyra came and went without making a single first-team appearance during his season-long loan spell, and Newcastle fans were left wondering what the point of signing him really was.
Since then though, the 27-year-old has come on leaps and bounds, and after hitting 16 goals in 28 games last season, Ferreyra has continued his scoring form with 27 goals in 35 games this term.
Now, whilst Newcastle fans still think of Ferreyra as something of a joke, the striker himself could be in line for a huge move this summer given alleged interest in Italy.
Calciomercato report that Inter Milan – as well as Bologna, Fiorentina and Sampdoria – are all interested in signing Ferreyra this summer, and the striker will get his pick of the club given that his contract expires at the end of the season.
Ferreyra will be on the move on a free transfer, and whilst his spell at Newcastle was bizarre, he could find himself playing for one of the world’s biggest clubs in Inter.
