Leeds United are reportedly keen on Oliver McBurnie.
Aston Villa’s promotion hopes remain alive, and whilst they would almost certainly have to do it via the play-offs, Steve Bruce can still take his side back to the Premier League.
The addition of Lewis Grabban in January has aided Villa, as the 30-year-old has notched five goals in 12 appearances since arriving on loan from Bournemouth.
Villa may consider a permanent move for Grabban, and whilst Bruce also has Scott Hogan, Keinan Davis and Jonathan Kodjia at his disposal, another striker could be eyed as an alternative to Grabban.
Back in January, the Daily Record reported that Villa were interested in Swansea City’s Oliver McBurnie, though they ultimately went for the experience of Grabban instead of the Scot’s youth.
Long-term though, McBurnie – who is just 21 – would be the much better option, giving Bruce a striker to develop at Villa Park after largely investing in proven players.
McBurnie joined Barnsley on loan in January, and has starred at Oakwell with eight goals in 13 games, with the Leeds-born hitman proving to be a hero in the Tykes’ battle against relegation.
McBurnie is not only a strong and athletic centre forward, but his quick feet and superb finishing have made him a star in the last two months, and Villa must keep him on their radar.
The Scottish Sun claim that McBurnie is eyeing a move to hometown club Leeds this summer in order to reunite with manager Paul Heckingbottom, but Villa must offer him an alternative – no matter what division they find themselves in next season.
