Tottenham should go all in for Riyad Mahrez.

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of a dream start to life at Wembley fell flat at the weekend as Chelsea beat them 2-1.

Spurs struggled to break down Chelsea’s resolute defence – potentially paying the price for failing to invest in signing any attacking players this transfer window.

Meanwhile a day earlier one player who has been linked with a move to Spurs, Riyad Mahrez, produced a stirring display to help Leicester see off Brighton.

Mahrez has been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer, with The Express reporting they are keeping a close eye on the situation.

His weekend display showed Spurs should waste no more time, and sign the dynamic Algerian who inspired Leicester to win the 2015/16 Premier League title.

Mahrez provided two assists in the 2-0 victory while completing 88 per cent of his passes.

He would not come cheap, with Roma failing with a recent £32 million bid to sign him, SkySports report.

Mahrez would be a terrific signing for Spurs. He is proven in the Premier League, has the ability to unlock tight defences, and also has Champions League experience.

Most of all he is displaying a positive attitude despite transfer links, unlike rebels Virgil van Dijk and Ousmane Dembele, who have thrown sulks in order to try and force moves.

It would be a big investment for Spurs, but one they should consider making – it could mean the difference between winning the league and falling short.
