Liverpool enjoyed a remarkable evening in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and their 7-0 win over Maribor actually broke an English record.
The Reds travelled to Slovenia on Tuesday night to take on Maribor, and the goals flowed for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with Roberto Firmino tapping home from close range after just three minutes to give Liverpool the lead.
Phillipe Coutinho’s scuffed effort from James Milner’s cross made It 2-0, before Firmino played in Mohamed Salah for 3-0, and the Egyptian scrambled the ball home from close range to give Liverpool a 4-0 lead before half time.
Firmino glanced Coutinho’s free kick into the corner to put Liverpool 5-0 up, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his first goal for the Reds, and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deflected strike sealed a 7-0 win.
Liverpool will be delighted to have found the net so regularly after a frustrating 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Saturday, and their goal glut in Slovenia actually broke a record that has stood for almost 50 years.

Liverpool’s 7-0 win is the biggest away win for an English side in Champions League/European Cup history, eclipsing Leeds United’s 6-0 win over Lyn way back in 1969.
Leeds’ two-legged tie with the Norwegian side 48 years ago was remarkable, as after winning the first leg 10-0 at Elland Road, the Whites then headed to the Ullevaal Stadion and clinched a 6-0 win, racking up a 16-0 aggregate win.
Whilst we may never see such a result again, Liverpool have now ended Leeds’ record, and will be hoping that the goals continue to flow in the coming weeks.
