Everton are reportedly set to appoint Marco Silva as their new manager this week.
Two weeks after sacking manager Sam Allardyce, Everton appear to be closing in on their new manager as the Liverpool Echo report that a deal for Marco Silva is on course to be completed this week.
The Toffees wanted Silva from Watford back in October and November but ultimately couldn’t prise him away from Vicarage Road, before the Hornets sacked Silva in January, suggesting Everton’s approach had turned his head and sparked a downturn in form.
Silva, 40, has been out of work ever since and looks set to finally become Everton manager as talks with Watford over a compensation deal seem to be progressing well.
The Portuguese boss will be working closely with new director of football Marcel Brands to bring new players to Goodison Park, and Silva may have a decision to make over winger Andre Carrillo.
Back in January, shortly after Silva’s Watford sacking, The Times reported that Silva had already discussed taking Hornets winger Carrillo to Watford with him, with the pair allegedly talking about heading to Merseyside together.
From that point on, Carrillo played just five Premier League games for Watford, totalling just 110 minutes as his loan deal from Benfica turned somewhat sour, with no permanent move to Vicarage Road coming this summer.
Carrillo is clearly a favourite of Silva’s having also worked together in Portugal with Sporting, but the 26-year-old speedster endured a difficult second half of the season, and may no longer be worth bringing to Everton – especially as they signed Theo Walcott in January.
Expected to feature prominently for Peru at the World Cup this summer, Silva may be better off checking up on Carrillo’s performances in Russia before working to strike a deal with Benfica, which shouldn’t be too difficult, but there should now be major questions over whether Carrillo does follow Silva to Merseyside.
