Could the Norwich City defender feature in Sheffield Wednesday’s plans in January?

Russell Martin’s admission that he is likely to leave Norwich City on loan this month (during an appearance on BT Sport, Saturday) should set alarm bells ringing around the Championship, perhaps even at Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday are down to two senior centre-halves following injuries to Tom Lees and Joost van Aken, neither of whom are expected back before the start of February.

That prompted Lee Bullen, the Owls caretaker manager until Monday, to admit last week that his side could turn to the loan market for reinforcements in the position.
And with a lack of leaders perceived by many to be part of the reason for Wednesday’s struggles this season, Martin, surely, will feature on the Yorkshire club’s radar.
The 32-year-old has captained Norwich since 2013, including throughout his absence this season, and racked up more than 300 appearances for the Norfolk side – most of which as a Premier League or Championship player.

Whether new Owls boss Jos Luhukay is familiar with Martin’s abilities remains to be seen, although there are enough people at Hillsborough who will be – with several having played alongside him either at past clubs (Gary Hooper, Norwich and George Boyd, Peterborough) or in Scotland’s national team (Barry Bannan, Steven Fletcher, Jordan Rhodes and Boyd).
