Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Diego Llorente will start training with his team today.
Bielsa made the comment about Llorente following Leeds’s 6-2 defeat to Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Liam Cooper took a knock, and Bielsa admitted after the match that he is not sure about the seriousness of the injury suffered by the 29-year-old Scotland international central defender, who was substituted in the 72nd minute.
Bielsa told Leeds Live: “No, I didn’t know the severity of Cooper’s injury and Llorente will start to train with us from tomorrow.”
Boost for Leeds United
Llorente is a very good central defender who has had fitness issues since he moved to Leeds from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2020.
The 27-year-old Spain international centre-back has played just 81 minutes in the Premier League for the West Yorkshire club so far this season, according to WhoScored.
Leeds need to get better defensively, and Llorente would be a massive help in that.
The Spain international is very experienced, and his quality on the ball, reading of the game, and ability to defend will come in handy for the Whites in the coming weeks and months.
