Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested to Football.London that Thomas Partey could return to action against Newcastle United.
Arteta shared the good news following Arsenal’s 4-0 win against West Bromwich Albion away from home at The Hawthorns in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
It was the Gunners’ third successive win in the league and puts them back in the race for the European places.
Arsenal will return to action next Saturday when they take on Premier League rivals Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup.
Arteta told Football.London about Partey: “Well he hasn’t trained fully with us but he’s done the most part training the last few days. He needs another two three training sessions to see if he’s ok to play. He’s feeling good and we will assess him if he’s 100 per cent available to play [against Newcastle].”
The Spaniard added on Arsenal’s official website when asked if Partey will be like a new signing: “Absolutely. We’re in January and I think he’s played two and a half games! He was our main signing, so we’ve been missing him.
“He brings something different to the team and it’s a player with an enormous talent, but he’s also someone that can transform the team in the way we want. If we can have him and keep him healthy, he will contribute in a really positive way.”
Good news for Arsenal fans
Partey suffered an injury against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby in December and has not played since, as reported by Football.London.
The Ghana international defensive midfielder, who joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2020, has been training in recent days.
Partey is a very good defensive midfielder who has impressed Arsenal fans when he has played.
The return of the 27-year-old will only make Arsenal better and stronger in the middle of the park, and will enhance their chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
