Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Burnley striker Andre Gray.
Burnley’s Andre Gray
A report from The Telegraph earlier today suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are considering a summer move for Burnley’s Andre Gray – almost a year since they were first linked.
Spurs were keen to bring in a new striker last summer to support star man Harry Kane, and they decided on AZ Alkmaar’s Vincent Janssen after his 31 goals in 49 games for the Dutch side last season.
However, Janssen has failed to score a goal from open play so far, with his four goals in all competitions coming from the penalty spot in a terrible first season at White Hart Lane for the 22-year-old.
Not only is Janssen being linked with a summer exit, but speculation suggests that Spurs now want another striker, with The Telegraph claiming that Burnley’s Andre Gray – who has scored six goals in 20 Premier League games this season – on Mauricio Pochettino’s wish list.
The 25-year-old has pace and power as well as impressive finishing, and Tottenham’s patient approach towards their interest in the former non-league star could be about to pay off.
In April 2016, the Daily Mail reported that Tottenham were among the clubs keen on Gray after his 23-goal season in the Championship last term, but with Burnley allegedly looking for close to £30million, Spurs unsurprisingly looked elsewhere.

Now though, Spurs appear to be back in the race for Gray, and it’s a sensible approach. £30million for a striker with no experience above the Championship would have been a huge gamble, but Tottenham have now seen him in the Premier League – and may feel that he’s shown enough to suggest he can be an upgrade on Janssen.
Additionally, Gray is heading towards the final year of his contract with Burnley, meaning Tottenham could drive the price down just a year after Gray was valued at £30million. Instead, they may hope to strike a deal at around £15million-£20million, taking advantage of his contract situation.
Having delayed a move for Gray, Spurs could now benefit in a smart manipulation of the transfer market, hoping to snap him up in a cut-price deal, just as the did with Victor Wanyama and Southampton last summer.
