Torino are set to deny Eddie Howe a defensive transfer target, as the Serie A side are about to hand Gleison Bremer a new contract after immediately rejecting Newcastle United’s bid.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who report Il Toro will triple Bremer’s salary to ensure the centre-half stays in Turin. The Brazilian is hot property this month after delivering a sublime run of form in the Italian top-flight this season.
Bremer has gone toe-to-toe with the biggest names in the division and come out with flying colours. He particularly impressed on Monday night, as Torino beat Fiorentina 4-0 and shut out the league’s 16-goal top-scorer Dusan Vlahovic.

Newcastle are now among the club’s keen to lure Bremer away from Torino in the January transfer window. But Il Toro President Urbano Cairo has rebuffed their €30m (£25m) offer.
Now, Bremer’s new contract is imminent, with Cairo decisive in locking down the 24-year-old’s future. His current deal ends in 2023, but will extend by a year with Torino retaining an option for additional 12-months.
Torino to deny Newcastle transfer with new Bremer contract
Torino only have a few, small final hurdles left to overcome with Bremer’s contract, to end Newcastle’s transfer hopes. They have a substantial agreement in place, which will see him earn €2m-a-year (£32k-a/w) after tax – three-times his current wage.
Confirmation of the contract extension should come by the end of January at the latest. Additionally, €200k (£167k) of his salary will likely consist of easy to achieve bonuses.

Renewing Bremer’s contract has been Cairo’s priority for months. But he advanced Torino’s plans after snubbing Newcastle’s transfer offer. That’s according to Corriere Granata, who also reported the Magpies’ unsuccessful bid on Wednesday.
Newcastle will likely have to now turn away from Torino and Bremer to offer Howe a new centre-back in the January transfer window. But the Toon are still keen on Diego Carlos, who 90min note Sevilla fear losing to the Magpies this month.
