Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has taken to Twitter with an eight-word verdict on his side’s 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan on Tuesday night. He said the squad were “not satisfied”, but happy to have progressed past Inter.

After goals from Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah in the previous leg, Liverpool were tasked with avoiding anything worse than a one-goal defeat – and that is exactly what they got. Lautaro Martinez scored for Inter.

It was the only goal of the night, cutting inside from the left flank and with his first touch – the Copa America winner unleashed a wonderful drive that flew past Alisson into the top corner. Liverpool boasted the best chances.

Mo Salah hit both posts, Joel Matip powered a header against the bar while Luis Diaz missed a guilt-edged chance from six yards – as Arturo Vidal made a last-ditch block to deny the Colombian. The result, then, ending 1-0.

But Liverpool progress 2-1 on aggregate into the Champions League quarter-finals. The first defeat at Anfield in 29 games, since March 7 last year – and Adrian has told fans that the Liverpool players are “not satisfied”.

Adrian delivers verdict: On another day, Liverpool would won easily

On another day, Matip’s superb header flies past Samir Handanovic into the top corner. Salah should have scored twice, instead hitting the post on both occasions. Diaz scores his chance nine times out of 10.

Realistically, Inter would not have been able to complain if Handanovic had conceded three of four goals at Anfield on Tuesday night. But the work was done in the first leg and it sees Liverpool progress into the quarter-finals.
