Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian isn’t exactly known for his silky skills, but he has made a right mug out of defender Nat Phillips in training.
Many may even be surprised to see Adrian still at Liverpool, as some expected him to leave with his contract up this summer.
Instead, the Spaniard has stayed put and will once again serve as cover for Alisson at Anfield this coming season.
Adrian is part of the Liverpool squad currently training out in Austria, and actually came on for Caoimhin Kelleher in Friday’s 1-0 win over Mainz.
Part of the modern game for any goalkeeper is being comfortable with playing out from the back, and Adrian has shown off his ability in training.
Adrian has taken to Twitter to post a video of Liverpool players in training, playing in a rondo as Phillips was essentially playing ‘piggy in the middle’.
Adrian produced the moment of the drill, nonchalantly nutmegging Phillips – something you don’t quite expect from goalkeepers even in the modern game!
Liverpool players loved it, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain turning to the cameraman to ask ‘please tell me you got that?!’
Sadio Mane joined in, saying ‘you have to show this one my friend, this one is the one!’
This kind of camaraderie is always great to see in pre-season, and Phillips will no doubt want to get his own back on Adrian at some point in training.
