Former Aston Villa advisor Adrian Bevington has told BBC Radio Five Live’s Football Daily that he would like Steve Bruce or David Wagner to replace Roberto Di Matteo.
Villa chose to part ways with manager Di Matteo on Monday, as Saturday’s 2-0 away defeat to Preston meant that the Italian had won just one game in his first 11 Championship fixtures.
After the recent spells of Paul Lambert, Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde, Villa are yet again looking for a new manager, with a host of names being linked.

The Daily Mail report that Steve Bruce – a former Birmingham boss – as well as Huddersfield’s David Wagner and Bristol City’s Lee Johnson are targets for Villa as owner Tony Xia looks to get Villa’s season going.
As Villa use the international break to get a new manager in place, former advisor and board member Adrian Bevington has had his say on matters at Villa Park.
Former Hull manager Steve Bruce
Bevington, who spent just two months at Villa earlier this season, told BBC Radio Five Live’s Football Daily that he has two main choices to become Di Matteo’s successor; the aforementioned Bruce and Wagner, with the latter being praised for his Jurgen Klopp-inspired brand of football.
Bevington, a former FA executive, added that he would also look at Brighton boss Chris Hughton despite his prior ties to Birmingham City, with Bristol City’s impressive young manager Johnson also admired by Bevington.
Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner
“My two choices would be Steve Bruce – because of his record, and continued promotion wherever he’s been – and I’m a massive fan of David Wagner. Everyone is now he’s doing so well at Huddersfield, but you can see that he’s worked with Klopp – it shines through when you watch his team play.”
“Other managers who are already in employment in that league who I think could do a very good job for Villa are Chris Hughton – he’s very good in that division at getting teams out of the league – and I like Lee Johnson. I think he’s a very forward thinking, up-and-coming manager,” he added.
