Steve Bruce has signed a long-term contract with Aston Villa.
Adrian Bevington has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 13th October, that he feels Aston Villa have made a good appointment by hiring Steve Bruce.
Bevington was briefly a member of Villa’s board last season, and he claims that Bruce was always on his list as a potential manager to take over at the Midlands club.
Now the 55-year-old has taken charge, Bevington is optimistic about Villa’s future.
“Very good appointment,” he said. “It’s been rumoured for some time. The debating point has been the issue that he is a Birmingham manager. It’s different to when McLeish moved straight to St. Andrews though.
“I was in Villa myself, and looking forward at who potential managers could be – Bruce was always a name who you’d look at.”
Bruce has a tough job on his hands at Villa, as their start to life in the Championship has been poor.
Villa badly disappointed last term, and only won three Premier League matches, and the squad seem to be struggling to collect three points again this time around.
Villa have only been victorious once in their first 11 Championship matches, and they currently sit in 19th place in the table.
Villa are 10 points away from the play off places, meaning that they are already playing catch up in the race for promotion.
Bruce’s first match in charge of Villa will come this weekend, when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
