Jack Grealish was Aston Villa’s man of the match on Sunday.
Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish has reinvigorated his side’s attack after finally recovering from a kidney injury that blighted the first half of his campaign, and Albert Adomah and Colin Calderwood have sung his praises on BBC Sport.
Grealish, 22, earned the man of the match trophy during Villa’s 2-0 victory in the Second City Derby, as goals from Adomah and Conor Hourihane downed Steve Cotterill’s Birmingham City.
With Villa winning their last seven Championship outings, Grealish has laid on three assists and even found the back of the net against Burton Albion in a 3-2 win over the Brewers at Villa Park.
Speed machine Adomah, who is the club’s current top scorer and assistant manager Calderwood spoke highly of the Villa academy product, as he leads the charge towards promotion back to the Premier League.
Adomah said: “Since Jack came back in, he’s been immense,” Adomah said. “Even if he doesn’t score, he produces magic. He creates things from nowhere. He’s always producing assists.
Calderwood said: “His consistency of performance is especially pleasing at the minute, for all of us and especially him. He can bring out those moments of quality that catch the eye, but his recent involvement in recent games has been excellent.”
Now with six assists in 19 games this season, Villa’s main creative source is expected to orchestrate proceedings in the final third once again this weekend as Bruce’s side go up against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
In what will be a much tougher test, Fulham have won four of their last five Championship matches and the play-off contenders sit in fifth place. Villa will do well to keep the likes of Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksander Mitrovic quiet.
Three points could see Villa open up a gap on Derby to four points, with Gary Rowett’s side currently in second, if the Rams lose to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.
