He has also been used as a number 10, meaning he has the versatility Marcelo Bielsa is looking for in his Leeds attack.
Leeds were linked with a number of other strikers though, and one of them was making a real name for himself back in Argentina.
Adolfo Gaich had emerged as a real talent at San Lorenzo, scoring seven goals in 27 league games whilst thriving at youth level for Argentina.
Marcelo Bielsa knows plenty of the young talent emerging in his homeland, and he allegedly wanted to sign Gaich over the summer.
El Intransigente reported in September that whilst Leeds missed as CSKA Moscow signed Gaich, Bielsa wanted to keep tabs on the burly striker ahead of a possible move.
Gaich is thought to have a €30million (£27million) release clause in his deal, so how is he faring over in Russia?
Well, the 21-year-old has started just one league game for CSKA, with an additional eight substitute appearances to his name. He is still waiting for his first league goal or assist for the Moscow giants.
He has at least scored in the Europa League, bagging against Wolfsberger last month, but he hasn’t quite had the start he was seeking.
Gaich is still young and adjusting, so there is plenty of time for him to attract Leeds’ interest again – but right now, Leeds may not feel they’ve missed out on an impact player.
