The forgotten Manchester United winger will be hoping for a chance. Will he get it?
Manchester United’s 20-year-old winger Adnan Januzaj has taken to Twitter to express his excitement ahead of the first game of the season.
It’s like the Belgian is a new man. And it is indeed a chance for a fresh start for the youngster at Old Trafford.
But, with Louis van Gaal – the man who wants to be seen as a coach rather than a big spender – continuing to splash the cash under Ed Woodward’s supervision, things will only get harder for Januzaj at Manchester United.
Indeed, things were difficult enough for the forward last term, when Januzaj failed to make any kind of impact under Dutchman Van Gaal.
Now, he not only has more team-mates to compete with overall but even someone directly challenging him for the role of United’s wonderkid: Memphis Depay.
Should Depay hit the ground running, he’ll likely be preferred to the competition – especially Januzaj – any day of the week. And the 21-year-old will no doubt be preferred as a Van Gaal signing, one that cost many millions.
If he has the talent and application, Januzaj can, of course, make an impression at Old Trafford next term.
But his initial excitement may not last – and a move, loan or otherwise, away from Manchester United might be his best bet for first-team football.
