Everton have sent out Ademola Lookman on loan to Red Bull Leipzig until the end of the season.
Everton youngster Ademola Lookman already appears to be proving Sam Allardyce wrong, as he has already broken into Red Bull Leipzig’s first-team.
When Lookman opted to move to Germany in the January transfer window, Allardyce was critical of the switch.
The Toffees boss suggested that Lookman was destined to sit on the substitutes’ bench for Leipzig, which would not have aided his development.
“It is his choice. Oliver Burke (who plays for West Brom) has been there and could not wait to get away,” Allardyce said.
‘We tried to persuade him not to because I think it is a big challenge for his development with not being able to speak the language. We wanted him to go out on loan to play first team football every week – there were better opportunities for that – but he was stubborn and got what he wanted.”
Lookman’s start at Leipzig suggests his career will not go the same way as Oliver Burke’s, and that Allardyce’s concerns were unfounded.
The 20-year-old scored on his debut for the Bundesliga side, and he has gone from strength to strength since.
Lookman has now started Leipzig’s last two matches, and his performance against Koln has drawn a huge amount of praise.
The Everton youngster claimed an assist yesterday, and even though Leipzig lost, he appears to have done enough to prove that he is ready for a regular starting place.
And it seems that Lookman’s move to Leipzig is all set to be a roaring success, despite Allardyce’s initial fears.
