Spurs are rumoured to be bringing in Loic Remy in place of a possibly departing Adebayor, but who would the club be better off with?
Tottenham’s forward line is being much debated in the national media at present, with last season’s impressive forward Emmanuel Adebayor being once again linked with a return to Monaco, while QPR’s Loic Remy, who was on loan at Newcastle this year, is rumoured to be coming in in his place.
These reports are in contrast to a previous belief that Pochettino was eager to keep hold of the enigmatic Adebayor, especially with fellow forward Roberto Soldado continuing to struggle in the Premier League.
Below we review the two strikers Opta statistics for last season, to see which forward would be the better option for the club:

Remy played nearly 300 minutes more than Adebayor across the season, equating to just under 3 games, not a great deal of difference over 38 games but worth considering when looking at the statistics. The Frenchman scored three more times than Spurs forward Adebayor, but the Togolese star leads the way in assists, total shots on target, and percentages in shooting accuracy and scoring from his efforts.

The next set of statistics are a little more even, with Remy surprisingly more successful than the powerful Togo target man in aerial challenges and duels for possession. He was also fouled many more times than Adebayor, over double in fact, and missed fewer big chances than his fellow striker. Adebayor beat the former Lyon man in his ability to successfully dribble past opposition players, while also being stronger with his passing and ability to win possession back in the attacking third.
To conclude, Tottenham’s current striker has similar goalscoring stats to those Remy displayed at Newcastle last year, though he is more reliable when it comes to hitting the target. His passing percentage and determination at winning the ball back would make his a decent candidate for Pochettino’s style of football. Remy does appear to offer more when it comes to duels for possession, earning plenty of fouls for his team, while also marginally stronger when it comes to converting big chances.
