Emmanuel Adebayor has not held back on talking about his time at Crystal Palace, saying that joining the Eagles was “the worst decision of my career”.

Adebayor also played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur during his time in the Premier League, but did not enjoy his six months at Selhurst Park.

“I had some great experiences in England in clubs who are among the best in the country,” the 33-year-old told French publication L’Equipe.

“I was happy there, my family too. The only error that I made was to sign for Crystal Palace in January 2016.

“I did it just to please my entourage, who were saying to me: ‘Manu, you have to start playing again!’ It was the worst decision of my career.”

Adebayor scored one goal in 15 appearances for Palace during the 2015/16 season, the club’s only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Watford in England’s top flight.

After leaving the South London side in the summer of 2016, the Togo international did not find a new team until joining Turkish outfit Medipol Basaksehir in January, netting seven times in 16 games since.

Adebayor also counts Metz, Monaco and Real Madrid among his former clubs in a varied and sometimes controversial career, which saw him vilified by Gunners fans after leaving for City and then celebrating exuberantly in front of them after scoring for his new team.

The Togo captain has also netted 29 times in 63 caps for his country.
