Jack Young has completed a permanent move to League One side Wycombe Wanderers from Newcastle United – where he is currently on loan until the summer. Adebayo Akinfenwa and Adam Armstrong reacted on Instagram.
Young, 21, joined Wycombe in January on loan until the end of the season from Newcastle – having been a regular a member of the Toon’s Under-23 side. He had played 59 games for Newcastle’s second string.
But after a brief loan between October 2020 and January 2021, he chose to go on loan again in the most-recent window – and now Young has joined the Chairboys permanently. The midfielder has signed a contract until 2025.
Having been at Newcastle since he was the age of seven, Young has posted on Instagram – thanking the Toon for the 14 years he has spent on Tyneside, and underlining his excitement at completing a permanent move.
Young leaves Newcastle: Akinfenwa and Armstrong react to his post
It is a really good move for Young. He joins a strong League One side still in the mix for the third-tier play-offs – sitting in eighth place and only a point behind the top six. That is, despite only playing twice so far for Wycombe.
But manager Gareth Ainsworth has clearly seen something in the young Newcastle star, and has swooped to get him on a permanent deal. He will now be focused on having a solid end to the campaign with Wycombe.
Akinfenwa, who is set to retire at the end of the season at Wycombe, and ex-Toon academy product Armstrong have both responded to his post.
