Adam Virgo has tipped Bristol City’s Tammy Abraham to be at a club like Aston Villa next year in his column for the Football League Paper.

Abraham arrived at Ashton Gate on a season’s loan from Chelsea in the summer, effectively replacing Jonathan Kodjia who was sold to Villa Park in a deal rising to £15 million (Football League Paper).

But while Kodjia has managed just one goal this season, Abraham has eight already – six of which have arrived in the Championship.

Abraham, Virgo suggests, is reaping the rewards of refusing to sit around in Chelsea’s academy “and pick up a wage”, and the former Leeds United defender suspects the 18-year-old’s spell in the second tier will serve as a stepping stone for greater things next season.

“Every big club in the division will want him and possibly some in the lower reaches of the Premier League,” Virgo wrote in his column for the Football League Paper.

“By 19, he could be playing for, say, Aston Villa, with a golden boot on his mantelpiece and widespread recognition.”

As things stand, Bristol City are six places and three points better off than Villa, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Since then, the Villans have spent close to £60 million on new signings, with almost half of going towards the captures of front men Ross McCormack and Kodjia.
