The summer signing from Oxford United was in superb form in yesterday’s 4-1 win.

Championship football expert and former Brighton defender Adam Virgo has been commenting on the form of Leeds United’s attacker Kemar Roofe and the impact of Garry Monk after Leeds thrashed Preston North End in the Championship yesterday.

Leeds won the fixture 4-1, with Roofe finding the net from close range and also providing the assists for Hadi Sacko and Souleymane Doukara in a brilliant individual performance at Deepdale.

After scoring 26 goals in 49 appearances for Oxford United in League Two last season expectations were high at Elland Road after his summer move.

It took him a while to settle, not scoring his first goal for Leeds until after 22 appearances for the club.

But his form has improved recently and Virgo, speaking on the Channel 5 Championship goal show, is very impressed:

“I’m pleased for him because he had a fantastic season with Oxford and scored plenty of goals and they got promotion from that. He was a key, key figure.

“It was a big move for him to go to Leeds. Finally now you see him in those advanced positions for Garry Monk’s side.”

The former Celtic defender went on to pour more praise on the impressive Leeds manager Monk. He stated:

“Take nothing away from the manager. He is doing an absolutely superb job at that football club. They didn’t have Chris Wood in that team today. How would they get on? Well they’ve gone and shown (how).”

Leeds are certainly reaping the rewards of Roofe and Monk’s improvements at Elland Road and if they continue along this current path then Promotion may very well be in the picture come the end of the season.
