Leeds United’s academy manager Adam Underwood has spoken to LUTV about the latest young player to sign professional terms with the West Yorkshire club: Bobby Kamwa.

The Cameroon-born midfielder signed a two-and-a-half year professional deal this week after dazzling for the Under-18 side as of late.

It is seen as Kamwa’s reward for lighting up the Aspire Academy’s Under-18 Tri-Series in Qatar, where he was named Player of the Tournament.

The 18-year-old has eight goals this season and Underwood is delighted to have secured the young man for the “foreseeable future”.

He told LUTV: “Yeah it’s great and brilliant for Bobby on a personal level. Bobby’s been with us since Under-14 level. He’s a talented young lad and an exciting player, someone with an attacking mindset.

“He wants to create and score goals and his efforts have been rewarded with a professional contract.

“That’s what we do with players who are making good progress. We want to secure them and ensure they’re with us for the foreseeable future.”

Kamwa will no doubt be excited to see Lewis Cook in the England squad for friendlies with Netherlands and Italy.

Cook is the latest Leeds-produced talent to make a name for himself in the Premier League following a good season with Bournemouth, and the 21-year-old’s status will surely inspire Kamwa and his young team-mates at Thorp Arch and show them what is possible.

Cook, who left Leeds in the summer of 2016, was an unused substitute in the win over the Dutch, though could face Italy next week.
