Richard Cresswell returned to Leeds United over the summer.
Leeds United’s Head of Academy Adam Underwood has told the club’s official website that he is delighted to see ex-striker Richard Cresswell return to the club as a coach this summer.
The Whites have a long, long history of bringing through top academy talents, with the likes of Danny Rose, Fabian Delph, James Milner and Aaron Lennon all thriving in the Premier League having cut their teeth with Leeds.
Even those who slipped the net – the likes of James Tavernier, Tom Cairney and Oli McBurnie – are impressing with Rangers, Fulham and Swansea City respectively.
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has given regular minutes to Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Kalvin Phillips this season, with Jamie Shackleton and Tom Pearce also around the squad having been in the Leeds academy.
Leeds will hope to keep that production line going in the coming years, and they made some changes to their academy staff over the summer, with one former Leeds forward heading back to the club.
Richard Cresswell – who scored 11 times in 44 games for Leeds following a 2005 move from Preston North End – has been brought in as Leeds’ new head of Academy coaching, and youth chief Adam Underwood has now discussed the move.
Underwood has told the club’s official website that Cresswell will be responsible for making sure the same message and ethos is delivered through every age group, and is developing coaches too, with Underwood claiming he is an ‘invaluable addition’ at Elland.
“Richard is responsible for leading the Academy coaching department and ensuring the delivery of our game and training models is aligned throughout the age groups,” said Underwood. “He is working closely with all the coaching staff, helping them to develop as coaches which in-turn, helps to develop our players. He brings a wealth of experience in the game and is an invaluable addition to the established Academy staff.”
