Bournemouth defender Adam Smith has said on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:25pm, March 13, 2023) that even some Liverpool players told him that the penalty that Jurgen Klopp’s side got at the weekend was a wrong decision.
Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 loss at the hands of Bournemouth away from home in the Premier League this past weekend.
The Reds headed into the match against the Cherries on the back of a 7-0 hammering of Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League.
Bournemouth have been one of the worst teams in the Premier League and are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
So, Liverpool were massive favourites heading into the match against Bournemouth.
And they lost.
The only goal of the match came in the 28th minute.
Philip Billing struck from eight yards for his sixth Premier League goal of the season after fine work by Dango Ouattara.
Liverpool had a great chance to at least pick up a point from the encounter.
The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute.
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah stepped up to take it.
The former Chelsea attacker could not score.
The penalty call was controversial.
Bournemouth defender Smith was penalised for a handball.
Referee John Brooks was advised by the VAR to go over to the pitchside monitor, and he decided to give Liverpool a spot kick.

Smith said: “Honestly, the ref, he didn’t even want to talk to us, to be honest, us players.
“I mean, when it came on the big screen, and even some of the Liverpool lads playing with us said it was harsh.”
