Adam Schefter has pushed the Aaron Donald comeback talk from offseason fantasy into something the Los Angeles Rams now have to be taken seriously on.

Donald remains retired, and nobody around the situation is treating his return as finished business. That is what makes the latest update so important, because the language has shifted from a hard no to a real possibility.

The Rams’ roster, the Myles Garrett buzz, and a Super Bowl in Los Angeles have all turned what once sounded impossible into one of the NFL’s most fascinating summer stories.

Adam Schefter says Aaron Donald’s return to Los Angeles Rams is more likely than not

Adam Schefter broke down the chances of Aaron Donald coming out of retirement and returning to the Los Angeles Rams.

“When you talk to all the people involved, nobody is coming out right now and saying, ‘Aaron Donald is coming back.’ But everybody is acknowledging that it is a possibility,” Schefter said.

He added, “And the fact that it is even a possibility in June tells me that I think there’s every possibility it will become more real in July.

“And I think, if and when they present a plan to him as to how he would be used, I think it’s more likely than not that he’ll be back.”

That is not a guarantee, but it is still a major shift. Donald retired in 2024 as one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history, so even the idea of him listening to a Rams plan changes the conversation.

Aaron Donald’s comeback ingredients are suddenly there for Los Angeles Rams

Schefter also made clear that the move has not reached the finish line yet, even if the situation has become harder to dismiss.

“… It still sounds like we’re a ways away. He has not gotten there yet,” the NFL analyst continued. “But the fact that this is even coming up.”

“And the fact that the Rams have the team that they do, and the fact that Aaron Donald would get to play with Myles Garrett, and the fact that the Super Bowl is in L.A. this year, I just think the ingredients are there to make it happen,” Schefter concluded.

The Garrett factor is the easiest football reason to understand. Pairing Donald with an elite edge rusher would reduce the burden that followed him for years, while giving the Rams a front that could instantly reshape the NFC.

The location matters too. A Super Bowl run ending in Los Angeles would offer Donald the kind of final chapter few retired stars ever get, which is why this rumor now feels less like noise and more like something the Rams can genuinely sell.
