Adam Lewis admits he’s now a Rangers fan, but will miss Steven Gerrard

Rangers brought manager Steven Gerrard to Ibrox this summer.

Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis has told the club’s official website that he will miss Rangers boss Steven Gerrard – but he’s now a fan of the Ibrox side.

Liverpool legend Gerrard turned his hand to coaching having ended his playing career, but after just one year coaching the Reds’ Under-18’s, he has handed a major job.

Gerrard was offered the reins at Rangers and duly accepted, taking on a huge challenge to bring the Glasgow giants back to their former glories and chase down Old Firm rivals Celtic.

So far, Gerrard has lost just one of his 13 games in charge, but that came against Celtic, with Europa League group stage qualification secured last week in what has been a strong start to management for the ex-England international.

A number of Liverpool youngsters thrived under Gerrard last season, and one of those was left back Adam Lewis, who was a regular last season and is now an England Under-19 international.

Some even expected Lewis to follow Gerrard to Ibrox in a loan move, but he stayed with Liverpool and has now discussed Gerrard’s exit over the summer.

Lewis has told the club’s official website that it was a dream come true to play and be captain under Gerrard last season, adding that he will miss the now-Rangers boss.

Lewis noted that he is close to Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria, two Liverpool talents who have gone out on loan to Rangers for the season, and he is even a Gers fan himself all because of Gerrard.

“I’ve said it many times but it was just like a dream come true,” said Lewis. “Being captain under him is something you dream of as a boy and I’ve done that. His support for me was massive. When I got sent off against Manchester United, he pulled me to one side and told me he had made that mistake when he was a player and said just to get on with it. Since then I’ve been the best I’ve been.”

“I will miss Steven but I know I’ve got Critch, Alex [Inglethorpe], Tim [Jenkins] and all of the coaches there for me and to help me. Critch is one of the best managers in the Academy and that’s why he has got the U23s job. I’m quite close to Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent and I want them to do well. We always watch the games now at home and we are all massive Rangers fans now as well as Liverpool! I didn’t watch them before but now we do because of Steven!” he added.
