Liverpool star Adam Lallana has told the club’s official website that they could feel the difference that the new stand made to Anfield’s atmosphere.

The Reds had to wait until Saturday for their first home game of this season as work was completed on the new main stand at Anfield.

The improvements have increased the famous old stadium’s capacity to 54,000, making it the sixth biggest football stadium as a result.

They enjoyed a winning start too, securing a 4-1 win over champions Leicester City in a comprehensive performance.

The addition has naturally changed the atmosphere considerably and Lallana says they could feel the difference on the pitch.

“We definitely felt it,” he told the club’s official website.

“That whole stand felt completely different – it almost made the pitch feel bigger at times. It was definitely noisier and we have to use that as a positive for ourselves going forward this season.”

Manager Jurgen Klopp will certainly be keen to see his Liverpool side tap into that new energy at Anfield this season.

They appear to have all the components to be top four challengers at the least this season and will need a strong home record if they are to do so.

They showed against Leicester that they can be a force at home and doing that on a consistent basis will now be the target for them.
