Liverpool’s Adam Lallana has hailed Michael Keane.
England’s Adam Lallana in action
Liverpool ace Adam Lallana has told Sky Sports that he thought Burnley’s Michael Keane was ‘outstanding’ for England against Germany on Wednesday evening.
The Three Lions made the trip to Dortmund to take on the world champions in a friendly, with England turning in an impressive performance at Signal Iduna Park.
However, Gareth Southgate’s men ultimately fell to a 1-0 defeat, with Lukas Podolski – playing his final international – smashing home a stunning long-range winner for Germany.
After trialling a 3-4-2-1 system, there was plenty for manager Southgate to be pleased with from the performance, most notably Michael Keane’s display in his first appearance for England.
The 24-year-old centre back has starred with Burnley this season, and impressed as England’s right-sided centre back as he earned his first cap for the Three Lions.
His performance only serves to build up the hype surrounding Keane, with plenty of speculation already suggesting that the former Manchester United youngster – who has just over a year left on his contact at Turf Moor – will be moving on this summer.
England’s Michael Keane applauds fans after the match
The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that Liverpool are now ready to rival neighbours Everton in the race to sign Keane at the end of the season, with manager Jurgen Klopp keen to add reinforcements.
Now, England team-mate and Liverpool star Adam Lallana has offered his thoughts on Keane’s performance against Germany, suggesting to Sky Sports that the defender – who could line up alongside Lallana at Anfield next season – was ‘outstanding’.
“I thought Keane was outstanding today,” said Lallana. “To come here and play the way he did against an opposition like that, credit to himself and it’s great for English football that he came in and performed so well. There are a lot of positives this evening – obviously the result not being one,” he added.
