Adam Lallana explains the slow start to his Liverpool career.
Liverpool’s signing of Adam Lallana from Southampton in the summer transfer window caused quite a stir and debate.
The England international midfielder had enjoyed a truly brilliant 2013-14 season with the Saints and was one of the best players in the Premier League that campaign.
However, the Reds’ willingness to pay as much as £25 million for the 26-year-old raised concerns among many. Was Lallana really worth that much?
Lallana has still not completely convinced everyone that he is really a £25m player, but his performances for Liverpool in the Premier League this season have suggested that he could prove to be a good addition to the team.

The attacking midfielder was one of the best Liverpool players at Anfield in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.

After the match which ended in a 1-1 draw, Lallana admitted that he is still getting into the groove of things, pointing out that a knee injury he picked up in pre-season has not helped him settle in Brendan Rodgers’s team.
‘I don’t want to make excuses, but I did miss pre-season’, he told Liverpool’s official website. ‘It’s a valuable part of getting the rustiness out. It’s just going to be with game time now.
‘Because of the injuries we’ve had, I’ve probably played a lot more than I would have done coming back from injury. But it has been great – that’s what you need as a player. I felt great out there, fitness-wise, and it’s just disappointing we couldn’t get the three points’.
Lallana showed last season that he is a quality attacking midfielder, but he will have to step up his game as the season progresses.
Competitive for places in Liverpool’s starting line-up is fierce, and with the team struggling at the moment, the Englishman needs to get stuck in rightaway.
