Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has told the club’s official website that the club’s player of the month award could have gone to any number of players.
Instead, the midfielder was the one that picked up the prize during a month which has seen the Reds pick up three consecutive league wins and make it to the last 16 of the EFL Cup.
Lallana told the club’s official website: “It is nice to get the award but I think it could have gone to anyone in the whole squad. We have started the season very well – it’s great to see.
“The award could have gone to a number of people – we have been performing that well as a team. When you perform well as a team you are going to get players playing well individually. That’s what we want to happen.
“The squad is showing great signs of improvement from last season. We just need to be consistent and focus on the game on Saturday now, against Swansea.”
Lallana found the net in home wins over Leicester City and Hull City, along with two assists during September – helping the Reds climb to fourth place in the Premier League, in a month which also saw Liverpool claim a victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
He is right to highlight that there have been many good performers in the Liverpool side during the past month. Jordan Henderson seems to have taken to his new role in the side well, Joel Matip has started to impress, and all of James Milner, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have received their fair share of plaudits.
Lallana and his teammates will be hoping to continue their good run of form going when they travel to Swansea City tomorrow in the lunchtime kick-off.
